Hi, I’m Elizabeth Adamson.

As a dedicated professional, I have navigated a diverse career path—one that blends my analytical background in finance with my unwavering passion for helping others. After four years in the banking industry, and engaging in counseling for my anxiety and OCD, I realized that my true calling lay beyond spreadsheets and deposits. It was during this introspective journey that I returned to academia, attending evening classes while continuing my full-time work commitments.

I proudly hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Boise State University, followed by a Master’s in Counselor Education from Northwest Nazarene University. My academic focus centered on trauma, grief, and crisis counseling—a field that resonates deeply with me. The opportunity to guide individuals through their darkest moments and empower them toward healing and growth fuels my purpose.

In my clinical practice, I eagerly listen to each client’s life story, recognizing the weight of their experiences and the resilience they carry. Together, we work toward enhancing their quality of life, fostering resilience, and promoting emotional well-being.

I invite you to connect with me, share your journey, and explore the transformative potential that counseling can offer. Together, we can navigate the complexities of life.

Here For you

I am passionate about working with teens and adults who are facing life’s challenges. Whether you are currently in crisis and feeling the depravity of life, battling anxiety, grappling with intrusive thoughts, or carrying the weight of emotional, sexual, or physical trauma, I am here to support you.

Additionally, if you’re navigating broken relationships or coming to terms with family dynamics that haven’t unfolded as expected, I am committed to helping you find renewed joy in meaningful connections.

Specialties

Anxiety -

The persistent worry that often manifests as physical symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, panic attacks, stomach knots, numb limbs, or spotty eyesight can significantly impair our daily functioning. The impact of anxiety can be profoundly debilitating. It is rooted in underlying causes, and my role is to assist you in uncovering these causes and developing personalized coping skills to manage anxiety when it arises.

Trauma -

Trauma manifests in various ways, including family dynamics, emotional abuse, vehicular accidents, chronic health conditions, sexual abuse, intimate relationships, abrupt life changes, and physical abuse, among other impactful experiences. I offer a comprehensive, trauma-informed approach to assist you in identifying behavioral patterns or health issues that may stem from your traumatic experiences. Together, we will explore these traumas by delving into their underlying causes.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder -

Feeling disturbed by recurring intrusive thoughts can be exhausting. The fatigue from repeatedly performing actions until they feel complete is overwhelming. Navigating obsessive thoughts and behaviors that consume significant mental energy and time can seem hopeless. However, you are not bound to live under the control of OCD. By confronting these thoughts with the truths you hold about yourself and examining various methods to identify the most effective ones, you can work towards breaking these habitual cycles.

Relationship Issues -

Relationships can be a source of great joy or profound hurt, significantly influencing how we navigate life. They are intended to enrich our lives with happiness and fulfillment. If you are dealing with or have dealt with unhealthy dynamics in your relationships, we can collaborate to address these challenges and discover pathways to move forward positively.

Grief and Loss -

Grief is a unique experience for everyone, and your path is distinctly yours. It may involve mourning the loss of a loved one, the end of a dream, the recognition that life hasn't turned out as planned, the passing of a pet, or the dissolution of friendships as you once envisioned them. Discussing your grief, sharing your experiences, and recalling joyful memories are three significant ways we can navigate through these times together.

BOUNDARIES -

Boundaries are essential; we all need them and can improve upon them. They are ever-evolving as we navigate new relationships, jobs, and life experiences. If you're caught in a cycle of people-pleasing, feeling exhausted from overextending yourself, experiencing poor treatment from those close to you, or realizing you never have time for your own goals, understanding and setting boundaries is crucial. I can guide you in recognizing the significance of boundaries and how to establish them in your life. This will help you gain respect, achieve your tasks, and lead a fuller life without the constant aim of pleasing others.

My Approach

I begin by asking open-ended questions. This allows you to share your life experiences freely, fostering trust and openness. By delving into family dynamics, I gain insight into the context that shapes their emotional landscape. Then we will explore significant memories—both positive and challenging. These form the backdrop against which you navigate your present difficulties.

I provide a safe haven for you to discuss any past or ongoing trauma or abuse. Compassion and empathy guide these conversations. Health and mental well-being are interconnected, so I take a holistic view, recognizing how physical health impacts emotional resilience.

Collaboratively, we define your healing journey’s end goal. This empowers you and informs our therapeutic direction. Once the foundation is laid, we delve into specific challenges where room is provided for processing and growth.

Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT)

CBT is a theory I employ to understand clients. It's based on the principle that thoughts affect feelings, which in turn influence actions. By identifying and addressing cognitive distortions—negative or inaccurate patterns of thinking—we can collaboratively work to reshape these thought patterns, leading to healthier thinking and emotions.

Dialectical behavioral Theory (DBT)

DBT is a therapeutic approach that can help identify fundamental issues you are dealing with. The core coping skills developed and honed in sessions include mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and managing interpersonal relationships. Reacting solely from our emotions often leads to regrettable decisions. Conversely, acting purely from logic can cause us to overlook the deeper connections and healing that enrich our lives. Together, we will integrate elements of your emotional and logical mind to cultivate your 'wise mind.'

Christian Counseling

This approach will be employed only upon request. As a non-denominational Christian, I am passionate about the ways in which the Lord can influence and heal our lives through relationships, practical coping skills, prayer, and scripture. If you wish to incorporate spiritual aspects into your session times, please inform me.
